BATTERSEA POWER STATION

Launching an icon

We could not be prouder to have produced the public opening ceremony for the iconic Battersea Power Station.

Collaborating with some of the best in the industry, our Bearded Kitten events team designed, produced, fabricated and delivered a program of exciting launch events to celebrate this momentous moment. Starting with a big bang launch moment with CO2 cannons, large biodegradable confetti cannons and ticker tapes from the roof before the doors opened to the public. Followed by a five day 'Festival of Power' with local performers across multiple stages including a main stage, busking stage and interactive roaming performers.

In the evening we brought the space to life with show-stopping lighting design and unique spectacles from Arcadia's Lords of Lightning. Families could also explore the Bright Sparks Trail – a brand new app designed by Bearded Kitten which led users through the history of the Power Station with geo locations, live performers, photo uploads, trivia, quizzes and missions.

The Brief

After years of anticipation, the reopening of Battersea Power Station needed to be nothing short of monumental. Our mission was to deliver an experience that honoured the site’s rich heritage while celebrating its promising future. The event had to be bold, dynamic, and unforgettable, paving the way for a new era at one of London’s most iconic landmarks.

Creative Concept

To bring this powerhouse back to life, we envisioned a five-day ‘Festival of Power,’ a high-energy celebration packed with performances, immersive storytelling, and show-stopping spectacle.

We kicked things off with a literal bang: CO2 cannons, biodegradable confetti, and ticker tape exploding from the roof in a high-impact launch moment. From there, the festivities unfolded with a carefully curated mix of local talent, interactive experiences, and jaw-dropping stunts. Arcadia’s Lords of Lightning delivered an electrifying show, while a custom-built Bright Sparks Trail led visitors on a gamified journey through Battersea’s history via an app designed by Bearded Kitten.

The Delivery

Bringing a space of this scale to life was no small feat. We meticulously designed and built multiple performance zones, including a main stage, busking areas, and roaming performance spaces. Every element, from the lighting design to the on-the-ground activations, was crafted to draw people in and create an atmosphere of excitement and discovery.

We collaborated closely with local artists and performers to ensure the festival felt authentic, while our production team worked around the clock to manage logistics, technical execution, and seamless visitor experiences. Our in-house tech specialists built the Bright Sparks Trail app, integrating geo-located challenges, live interactions, and trivia to engage audiences in an entirely new way.

The Impact

The Festival of Power was nothing short of a triumph. Crowds poured through the doors, social feeds lit up, and media outlets raved about the event’s energy and innovation. With an overwhelming wave of positive feedback from both attendees and the client, Battersea Power Station’s grand return made its mark – and we made sure it happened in true Bearded Kitten style.

The launch was featured across countless publications, including, BBC, ITV, Time Out, and Evening Standard. It was also well received amongst the public, with a 96% positive sentiment in visitor feedback!

The legacy of the launch lives on, cementing Battersea’s place as a vibrant cultural destination. For us, it was a defining moment in our agency’s history, proving once again that when it comes to crafting unforgettable experiences, we power past any ‘expectations.’
